Martha Marie Geall passed away suddenly on November 22, 2018 at the age of 79. Martha (Mom) was born in White Fox on February 21, 1939 to Charles and Mary Bell. She was the oldest in a family of nine. She lived and completed her education in White Fox. After graduation she completed a stenographer’s course and worked in positions at La Pas and the RM. Mom met Ed Geall and after a short courtship they were married on February 20, 1960. Mom and Dad started their life on the Geall homestead. They worked hard with Dad’s mother and father John and Ruby Geall building a pedigreed seed farming operation.
Mom stayed busy on the farm working alongside Dad. She was a farm wife with a strong work ethic to do whatever needed to get done without complaint. She grew a large garden, kept the house running (without running water for many years), and kept us kids in line. At the same time being called upon for numerous farm activities such as picking rocks, roots, weeds, hauling grain, meals, burning straw, plucking chickens, to name a few.
Mom and Dad were both active in the Kinsmen and Kinette club where they established many long time friends. The worked hard but also took time to enjoy their friends, either tearing up the snow around the countryside, or relaxing at the lake. Mom & Dad had done some travelling together and Mom continued to travel with family and friends after his passing. One of our most cherished vacations is our family trip to Disney World.
After Dad’s passing in 1994, Mom continued to remain on the farm for the next 17 years. She enjoyed helping out with running for parts, moving trucks from one field to another, making meals, doing books and watching the farm grow.
In 2011, Mom moved into town and began a new phase of her life. She loved her life and her large network of friends; she had her regular coffee crew, gym buffs, picnic gang and condo friends. All people she cherished deeply.
Mom’s pride and joy throughout these years has been her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She didn’t miss many events, hockey tournaments, skating carnivals, piano recitals, ball games, and graduations. With Dad’s early passing Mom leaned to her family for love and companionship. As she grew older we continued to enjoy the zest she had for her life and the love that she shed on our families.
Martha is survived by her son Brian (Pat); her daughters Brenda (John) Lehmann and Sherril Carlson (Terry Leonard); six grandchildren, Kyle (Megan), Kelsey, Jenna (Aaron), Jordan (Paige), Chad & Kalyn (Mike); 4 great grandchildren, Jade, Callie, Kolby & Lexi. Her sister Sharon Gray (Keith), brothers Bob (Gloria), Wayne (Lorraine), Larry (Pat), Ron (Dorothy) & Murray (Penny), sister in-law Hazel Chanter, Shirley Welk (Leonard), Joyce Ruda (Tony Houk). Numerous nieces and nephews.
Martha was predeceased by her beloved husband Ed, parents Charles and Mary Bell, sister Shirley Kimmie, brother Eldon, mother-in-law Ruby Geall, brother-in-law Ash Chantler.
