Merna Louise Whitehead passed away at the age of 78 on October 13,2023 in Melfort, SK. Merna was born February 21,1945 in Carnduff, SK, the eldest of Grant & Nellie Whitehead’s four children.

Merna is predeceased by her parents, Grant & Nellie Whitehead; brother, David Whitehead; sister, Myrtle Szakacs; foster parents, Murray & Helen Ross; and foster brother, Bruce Ross.

Merna is survived by her brother, Bill (Rhoda) Whitehead; sister-in-law, Nola Whitehead; brother-in-law, David Szakacs; foster siblings and many nieces and nephews. She was “Auntie Merna” to most who knew her     personally and was fond of that title.

Merna achieved a diploma in Nursing, a Bachelor of Nursing degree and an Associate Bachelor of Social work degree. She nursed in Brandon, Winnipeg and Vancouver but settled in Melfort, SK in 1987. After a 29-year Social Work career at Parkland Place, Merna chose to remain close to loved ones and familiar surroundings.

Merna was greatly influenced by the love her mother had found for God, the ministry and the fellowship. She wanted that comfort for herself and made her choice to serve God in 1957 at 12 years of age. She remained convicted and true to that choice all these years.

Merna’s funeral service was held from the Fedusiak Funeral Chapel on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at 10:30 AM with Cam Bradshaw, Ruth Sinclair and Lynn Higgins officiating.  The interment followed in Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
