Merrie “Lyn” Bernard
July 18, 1950- January 17, 2023
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother Lyn.
Not only was she a mother, but she was also a grandma, dear sister to her 12 siblings, and special aunt and a great aunt to numerous nieces and nephews.
At the time of her passing she resided in Lacombe, AB. Mom had moved there with her late husband Rusty Bernard whom she was predeceased by in 2017. Mom and Rusty enjoyed spending summers at their seasonal lot at the Bashaw golf course and winters in Yuma, Arizona.
Prior to moving to Lacombe, mom lived in Calgary with the love of her life Art Kross. She enjoyed their time spent backwoods camping in the mountains with their friends, her coffee dates with “Ma”, (Art’s mom Marjorie) and bowling with the ladies.
Lyn was also predeceased by her first husband, Leonard Margolis in February of 2021. Together they had 3 children together who are left to mourn her passing. Teresa (Urban); Kurt (Terri) and grandkids Lexie and Kale; Kari-Lyn (Stuart) and grandkids DeShawn and Tiyanna. In those years mom enjoyed her time at Anglin Lake, family trips, bowling in Melfort, being a member of the Kinistino Kinettes, curling, afternoon coffees at the Swen, Jr Tiger Hockey games and attending dances and other social events with Dad and their friends.
During high school mom enjoyed playing ball and broomball, however school was not her favourite pastime and she left that to pursue a career in hairdressing. In 1968 she started cosmetology school in Saskatoon and went to Winnipeg to finish school and have Teresa. It is no surprise that she wanted to be a hairdresser as she always took pride in her appearance.
A few other things mom enjoyed were doing her crossword puzzles, watching her Calgary Flames and even though you can take the girl out of Saskatchewan you can’t take Saskatchewan out of the girl, watching her beloved Saskatchewan Roughriders play.
Go rest high on that mountain in the arms of Art, we are sure it’s 5 o’clock somewhere.
Funeral service will be held in the Kinistino Anglican Church on Feb 25, 2023 at 1:00
Interment to take place at a later date in Calgary.
