Michael Cherkowski, born April 25, 1962, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2026, at the age of 63.
Michael was born in Cardston, AB but grew up and spent most of his life in Hudson Bay, SK helping with the family business. While he moved to Prince Albert for many years, he found home in Melfort, SK, where he resided since 2009.
Michael loved being a father to his three sons, Garrett (Lori), Coty (Sharla, Gracelyn, Autumn) and Tanner (Carly). He was so proud of his family and held them so close to his heart.
Michael loved outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing and quadding. His first true love was cars, especially mustangs. His summers involved frequenting many car shows around Sask. He could talk to a stranger about their car for hours. He loved spending time at the lake with his sons when they were younger and in their adult years. He has many fond memories of these times.
Michael was incredible fond of animals. He truly loved his pets as family. He loved to feed his birds and the rabbits that frequented his home.
Michael was predeceased by his father, Rudy, his brother-in-law, Terry Rychjohn, close friend Dick (Richard) Jones, and his beloved dog, Candy.
Michael is survived by his lovely mother, Rosalie, sister Debbie, brothers Mark (Terri-Lynn), Jeff (Sheri), his 3 sons and their partners, his baby Bailey, nephew Nathan, niece Lauren and many friends who he thought of as family.
Our family extends a heartfelt thanks to the incredible staff at Palliative Care in St. Paul’s Hospital.
