Muriel Gordon passed away suddenly, after a short, brave battle with ovarian cancer in the early morning of Monday, September 6, 2021, at the age of 74. Muriel is predeceased by her loving mother, Kathleen Vhal. She is survived by her father, Merlin (Lucy), brother Laurie (Shirley), husband Wayne and their three daughters and their families: Michelle (Mason and Maddyn), Tanya and Stace (Brooklyn, Ryder and Halston), and Marcie and Curtis (Raquel and McKenna), as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Muriel was born in Tisdale on December 2, 1946 and grew up on the homestead farm by Ratner, Saskatchewan. Her childhood was filled with adventures on the farm, but she also was involved in school activities such as athletics and the yearbook. After high school, she moved to Melfort and started working at the Bank of Nova Scotia. This is where she met her loving husband, Wayne.
Wayne and Muriel were happily married for 50 years, as of July 31, 2021. During this time, they had three wonderful girls and seven amazing grandchildren! She was co-owner of Gordon Redi-Mix with her husband and enjoyed spending time with her family. Throughout the years of raising her girls, she volunteered in the Girl Guiding Organization, St. John’s Ambulance and various other organizations.
As a devoted grandmother, she was always running to numerous activities that her children, and eventually her grandchildren, were involved in. Mom loved cheering her grandchildren on from the sidelines and rink stands. She never missed a game or a Christmas concert! She would take her family on yearly trips to Waskesiu Lake, which was always fun filled. Muriel was more than just a grandmother but was a staple in the lives of all her grandchildren. She was often referred to as ‘gramma’ by her grandchildren’s friends and teammates.
Muriel lived her life with grace and integrity. She was a kind, patient, loving woman. Everyone who met her loved her. She had the ability to make everyone feel special and valued. Mom touched many lives and will be dearly missed.
Muriel’s Funeral Service will be held from the Evangelical Covenant Church, Melfort, on Monday, September 13, 2021 at 2:00 P.M. with Gladys Court officiating. The interment will follow in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Melfort.
