Owen Carl Larson was born June 8, 1931 to John and Olga (Aasen) Larson of Bagley, SK, the second child and only son of a family of 5 children. Owen passed away suddenly and peacefully in his home May 9, 2023 just after 8pm.
Owen attended North Star school, completing grade 8 before joining his father and uncle Karl Johan in farming the Larson homestead.
On November 30th, 1959, Owen married Louise Kozak from the Fairy Glen district. They lived and farmed in the Bagley district. Their children are son Darin John (1965) and daughter Karen Ann (1970). They have two grandsons Dominic James McKeith (1996) and Thomas David McKeith (1998). In the year 2000, Owen and Louise sold the farm and moved to Melfort where they remained to this day.
Owen was an avid hunter and trapper, fisherman and loved exploring the woods and lakes for blueberries and fish. As a boy he would often trap and sell the hide or fur. He saved his money to buy himself a hunting rifle, snowshoes, and a Lone Ranger guitar. He hunted wildlife in his adult years and loved moose and elk meat. Owen also enjoyed gardening and had already planted beets and onions the week prior to his passing. Owen enjoyed going to his cabin at Jan Lake and in his older years, camping or renting a cabin at Waskesiu where he, Louise and their children and grandchildren would get together for a weekend of fun.
Owen leaves behind to mourn his loving wife Louise, son Darin, daughter Karen (Kevin) and grandsons Dominic and Thomas, sister Marilyn and her husband Henry Friesen, sister Sandra and her husband Clarence Hendrickson, brother-in-law Steve Fidyk, sister-in-law Fern Kozak, sister-in-law Annette Kozak, sister-in-law Ollie and her husband Don Yaremko as well as numerous nephews and nieces and their families, cousins and friends.
Owen was predeceased by his parents John and Olga Larson, sisters Melba Bergren and Ruth Fidyk, brothers-in-law: Bill, Orest, Nick, John, Peter Kozak, Peter Bergren, Len Cissell, sisters-in-law: Josephine Kozak and Maisie Cissell, and nephews Dennis Kozak and Aaron Bergren.
On behalf of the family we wish to express our gratitude for your words of sympathy, acts of kindness, support and your attendance at the funeral service. A special thank you to Andrea Banadyga for stepping in at the time of passing to take care of Louise in her home while the medical team were present, until Darin and Karen arrived.
