Peter Garnett
Posted May 24, 2026 | 4:11 PM

Peter Garnett was born to Clifford and Verna (Nielsen) Garnett on September 16, 1956, at the Wynyard Hospital in Wynyard, SK. He passed away suddenly on May 14, 2026, at his home on the farm near Silver Park, SK.
Peter grew up with his parents and his older sister, Daphne, followed by four more sisters: Denise, Judy, Valerie (deceased at birth), and Lori. The family moved a few times but always remained in the Levant district southwest of Wynyard. Peter and Daphne attended Levant County School until it closed in 1963, after which they rode the bus to school in Wynyard, later joined by Denise, Judy, and Lori when they were old enough.
At just 16 years old, Peter began his carpentry career in Calgary, AB, spending several years working across Alberta and southern Saskatchewan with the same company. When the time felt right, he moved to Silver Park, SK, where his parents and younger sisters had settled, and established his own business, Town & Country Developments. He worked as a carpenter for the rest of his life. Peter was deeply respected for his skill, strong work ethic, and attention to detail, always at a fair price.
Peter enjoyed snowmobiling, quadding, all animals, and spending time outdoors. He especially loved the annual hunting camps at the cabin near Hudson Bay, SK, and watching the deer that visited his yard.
But some of his happiest memories came from chariot and chuckwagon racing with his dad. He raced for many years and loved every moment – win or lose. Much of his joy came from visiting with other drivers, and he made many lifelong friends through the racing circuit.
Peter was quick witted and had a great sense of humor. He enjoyed playing cards and visiting with family and friends. Though quiet in a crowd, he took great pleasure in one on one visits – laughing, joking, and sharing stories. He was also a true lifelong Toronto Maple Leafs fan and defended them passionately.
Peter is survived by his mother, Verna Garnett; his sisters, Daphne (Larry) Wickstrom and family – Owen (Roxie) Wickstrom, Dallas Wickstrom (Ashlynn), Jaydon Wickstrom (Cassandra), Nicole (Travis) Coburn, Cody (Leah) Makarow, Kyler Wickstrom, and Kiana Wickstrom; Judy (Matt) Charney and children – Clayton Gunter and Megan Gunter; and Lori (David) Moskal. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Jerry Moskal, and his children – Melanie (Todd) Penner, Jeff (Sheila) Moskal, and Michelle Moskal. Peter will also be missed by many great nieces and great nephews, as well as numerous neighbors and friends.
He was predeceased by his father, Clifford Garnett (2006); his sisters, Denise Moskal (2021), and Valerie Garnett (1966); his grandparents, Florina (2004) and Paul (1965) Nielsen, and John (1969) and Annie (1931) Garnett; and his nephew, Eerin Wickstrom (2013).
Everyone has doors that open and close throughout their lifetime, and it is our decision whether we walk through that door at that specific time, close it for another day, or have others join us through it. Some of our experiences bring complete enjoyment, while others bring hardship. We never truly know what doors our loved ones have open at any given time or whether they will go through them. Peter decided it was time to go through that door alone on May 14, 2026, and the world lost an incredible man too early. We will never know all the reasons why he made that decision, but we must trust that the view gave him a sense of peace.
May we remember him not for the way he died, but for the way he lived and the lives he touched.
A Memorial Service for Peter will be held on Monday, May 25, 2026, 2:00 PM at the Silver Park Community Hall, Silver Park, SK
