Richard Becker, 78, of Naicam, Saskatchewan, passed away peacefully with his beloved wife by his side on January 21, 2025. Born on May 21, 1946, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Richard was a devoted husband and a loving father.
He was predeceased by his parents, Wilfred and Christina Becker; his sister, Doreen Duchnitski; and his grandson, Zachary Becker.
Richard and Peggy were married in Melfort on September 8, 1973. They moved to Naicam in December of that year to start a new farm supply business, Cline’s Service. After selling his business to the Naicam Co-op, Richard managed the newly formed Co-op Farm Supply for three years. He then worked at Naicam Motors as an AG Salesman for years until they discontinued their ag-line. Following this, he served as a job supervisor, ordering materials and overseeing employees at the newly built Naicam Sportsplex. In 1988, he began working as a shipper-receiver and later became a parts man at Cropper Motors. Eventually, he rose to the position of Parts Manager and retired at the age of seventy.
Richard was deeply involved in his community, dedicating over three decades to the Naicam Town Council from 1982 to 2016. He chaired various boards, including Finance, Sewer and Waste Water, Rink Board, and Library Board, making significant contributions to the town’s development and well-being. He was also a Boy Scout Leader for the newly formed Naicam Boy Scouts, guiding and mentoring young boys in the community. Richard enjoyed camping, fishing, and canoeing with family and friends. He was a bassist and vocalist in a band with Ray Tennent for years, travelling throughout Saskatchewan. He found joy in building homes for animals, carefully crafting each one to attract and shelter the squirrels and birds. He would spend hours watching with a smile as his furry and feathered friends visited, delighting in the rustling leaves and soft chirping that filled his yard.
Richard is survived by his wife, Peggy, and their three sons and their families: Darryl and Dani, and his son Riley; Ryan and Roberta; Brent and Siranan, and their daughter Bella. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews: Louise Yagelnesky, Gail Versteegt, and Wayne Duchnitski; his sisters-in-law: Elaine Edmondson, Sharon Whiting, Debbie McDougall, and Brenda MacDonald; as well as extended family and many friends who will miss him dearly.
A Celebration of Life Service was held from the Fedusiak Funeral Chapel, Melfort, on Monday, January 27, 2025 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Larry Rempel officiating. The interment will take place at a later date in the Naicam Cemetery.
