It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ronald Alfred Eremko on March 18, 2019 in the Tisdale Hosptial, Tisdale, Saskatchewan, at the age of 78 years.
Ron was born on August 30, 1940 in Foam Lake, Saskatchewan. He was the oldest child of Michail and Irene Eremko. He received his elementary education at Leacross, Saskatchewan and was a graduate of the Tisdale Unit Composite School, the Saskatoon Teachers’ College and the University of Regina.
In the fall of 1960 he began a 30 year teaching career at the Tisdale Public School teaching a grade 7 class. In 1963 he was appointed Vice-principal in addition to his teaching duties. He remained in this position until 1967 when centennial Junior High School was opened. After CJHS opened he stayed at the Tisdale Public School as teacher and vice-principal teaching grade 6 class. In 1978 he was appointed principal of the Tisdale Public School and Dag Hammarskjold School while still teaching half-time. In 1985 the Dag School was placed under separate administration. In 1979 he supervised the move from the old Tisdale Public School to the new Tisdale Public School. After a 30 year career he retired from the teaching profession in June 1990. During his 30 year career he had 900 students pass through his classroom and was associated with thousands of other students. He had many pleasant memories of his association with these young people, some of whom later became personal friends.
Besides his professional obligations, he was a very active member of the community. He was a past member of the Riverside Golf Club, the Tisdale Community Curling Club, Past President and Kinsmen of the year in the Kinsmen Club. In 1993 he was appointed by Saskatchewan Health Minister Simard as the first chairperson of the Pasquia Health District to co-ordinate all health facilities in Tisdale, Hudson Bay, Kelvington, Porcupine Plain and Rose Valley into one administration unit. This district, at a later date, became part of the Kelsey Trail Health Region.
Ron enjoyed travel; first to Spain and Europe, then he and Donna travelled extensively to the USA, Mexico, Cuba and ultimately finding a special spot in Samana Dominican Republic. They vacationed there for many years creating life-long friendships with the locals and people from around the world.
