On June 26th, our mother, Rose Bakos, passed away with family around her at St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon. Mom was born in the Spiritwood district on May 5, 1938. After growing up in the area with her many siblings on their family farm, she married our Dad, Nandor, on August 17th, 1957. Together they farmed and raised their family of four near St. Brieux. Even as a busy mother and farm wife, she made time to volunteer in her home community. Firstly with her children’s activities as an Ice Mother, tying skates for anyone who needed help. She was a 4-H leader for many years encouraging the love for sewing and home-making. She was a Catering Group Leader at the Community Hall for many years. Lastly, after the opening of the Chateau Providence, she volunteered with the Auxiliary and continued until she could no more due to her declining health. From the farm they moved to St. Brieux in 2013 and moved once again to Diefenbaker Towers in 2017. Both moves were very difficult but Mom knew that it didn’t matter where they lived as long as they were together. Mom and Dad experienced many joys and sorrows in their lives but the most profound sorrow was losing their grandson Darren. Their love for each other got them through this tragedy and with the help of their children and their families, they somehow carried on. They loved them all and attended just about every birthday party, school event, fundraiser, carnival, dance and music recital, 4-H Achievement Day, baseball, volleyball, basketball and hockey games that any one of them participated in. Mom loved seeing her natural grand and great-grandchildren and her numerous “bonus” great-grandchildren enjoying whatever they were involved in.
Mom is survived by Dad, Nandor, husband of 61 years and 10 months. Her children: DAN (Joan) and grandchildren: Jen, Chris (Shannon) and great-grandchildren: Kailyn, Adley and Ainsley. KATHY (Larry Nemeth) and grandchildren: Laurie (Ryan Kunz), Kristin (Stephen Wielgosz), Lisa (Quentin Taylor), Mitch (Ana) and great-grandchildren: Madison, Grace and Drew Kunz; Anna, Ava, Carter and Charlotte Wielgosz; Claire and Casey Taylor and Theo Nemeth; VICKY (Paul Williams); SHEILA (Wayne Keddy) and granddaughter Theresa.
Mom, you will be forever in our hearts.
We will all miss you greatly.
Funeral Mass for Rose was celebrated from the St. Brieux Roman Catholic Church, St. Brieux, on July 3, 2019 with Father George Canto and Father Gethin Edward officiating. The interment followed in the Little Moose Cemetery.
