Walter Fedusiak was born on the family farm in the Insinger district to Matt and Effie (Skehar) Fedusiak. The third of four children, Walter attended Yeman school where he actively participated in sports and music even forming a band with his siblings who would play on Saturday nights at the church hall.
He married Evelyn Slowski August 01, 1954. They lived and raised 3 children on the farm near Insinger. He and his brother farmed together for many years. Walter was a hard worker and in the first years of farming and marriage would work road construction in the winter months. He and Evelyn continued to live on the farmyard after they retired from farming. They kept a large garden and a beautiful yard for as long as they lived there. They each had their own riding mower to keep the yard well trimmed.
Walter and Evelyn were known to welcome many a person into their home with a coffee, meal, and a listening ear. Many a young farmer would seek out Walter’s mentorship and advice when required as he was well respected in the farming community. Walter and Evelyn were both active in the Insinger community through their involvement of curling, fastball, dances and hosting many a party. Walter also served as president of St. John Suchawa Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
As retirement neared, Walter took up the sport of golf. He would sometimes even leave the fields early so that he could get in 9 holes at the Whitesand Golf Course with his friends. Often Walter and Evelyn would travel to the course in the old Chevy half ton where Walter would play a round with 2 different golf balls while Evelyn sat in the truck and read a book. This was their version of a date. Walter enjoyed sharing this sport with both his children and grandchildren. Grandparenting sessions often involved singing and playing his guitar or violin followed by a trip to the golf course and an ice cream treat.
Walter and Evelyn moved off the farm in 2012 to Foam Lake where they resided until Evelyn’s passing in 2018. Walter moved to the Foam Lake Jubilee Nursing Home where he resided until his passing.
Walter was pre-deceased by his beloved wife of 64 years Evelyn in 2018, son Freddie in 1955, his parents Matt and Effie, in-laws William and Mary Slowski and brother Matt and sister Adella Torsky.
He leaves to cherish in his memory daughter Cheryl – Laurissa (Vicki) – Joshua, Walter and Thomas. Son Gregory (Kathy) – Emma and Erin. Daughter Susan (Garry) – Sarah (Tom) and Cassie (Marc). Sister Iris Bourns (Jacques) and brother-in-law Steven Slowski as well as his nieces, nephews and godchildren.
Walter will always be remembered for his devotion to his family, his faith, his hard work ethic, friendly and welcoming demeanor, and his big smile. The family takes great comfort in knowing he is with Evelyn now.
