Walter William Tkachuk was born on February 21, 1945 to Jim and Margaret Tkachuk. He passed away August 22, 2024 at the age of 79 years, after a long and courageous battle with cancer, with his family by his side.
Walter enjoyed many good times hunting with his friends and family. He always got his moose. Many fishing trips were made with his wife Gloria and the Grandchildren as they got older. Walter enjoyed curling and playing fast ball. He was the catcher and was unmovable when a player was running home. Walter was a loving, generous, compassionate man who would give the shirt off his back to help out anyone.
Walter worked for several years as a mechanic in Melfort where he met the love of his life Gloria Rosvold. They were married October 30, 1965 on a beautiful autumn day. They had three children Lorri, Jim and Debbie. After Lorri and Jim were born they moved to the family farm by Resource to continue farming when his dad became ill. Walter started working for the Cargill Elevator in Star City while still farming and moved his family there where Debbie was born, completing their family. Walter worked at Cargill Elevator in Melfort and Star City for several years until 1980 when they built their forever home and moved back to the farm site at Resource. Walter enjoyed his life on the farm caring for his family, getting together with friends, working the land and raising cattle.
Walter was predeceased by his parents Jim and Margaret Tkachuk, his parents-in-law Willard and Laura Rosvold, sister-in-law Phyllis Romaniuk, brother-in-law William Matisz, brother and sister-in-law Paul and Elsie Tkachuk, his son Jim, grandson Colton Tkachuk and granddaughter Sierra Carriere.
Walter will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his loving wife of 58 years Gloria Tkachuk, his children Lorri (Rob) Jung, Deborah (Sheldon) Leicht, his grandchildren Cody, Stephanie, Landon, Jason, Kaden, Somer, Addison, Karson, Kyran, Brielle and his great grandchildren Annie, Alice, Parker and Rylan, Sister Reta Matisz and Charlotte Matisz, as well as numerous other nieces and nephews.
A service celebrating Walter’s life was held from the Melfort Evangelical Covenant Church on Thursday, August 29, 2024 at 11:00 AM with Gladys Court officiating. The interment followed in the Silver Park Cemetery.
