Carrot River hosting its first rodeo
The town of Carrot River will host a rodeo in the community for the first time in its history.
On Aug. 18 and 19, a Kakeyow Cowboys Rodeo Association (KCRA) sanctioned event will be held at the Carrot River Valley Sports Grounds (CRVSG). The host committee was at the curling rink Monday sharing information about the rodeo. Host committee president Jackie James said the event is being held alongside the town’s Flavours of the Outback and a town wide art tour.
“We thought that would all fit together and bring lots of people to town to see what we have to offer,” James told northeastNOW.
The rodeo is one of nine scheduled for the KCRA in 2018. The categories will include bull riding, bronc riding, steer riding, saddle bronc, and team roping. The committee expects 400 participants across peewee, junior and open divisions. James said the committee has committed to hosting the event for five years.
