Cumberland College names interim president

Mar 29, 2018 | 12:00 PM

The Cumberland College board of directors has named a temporary replacement for outgoing president, Dr. Tom Weegar.

Lynn Verklan, the current director of finance and administration at the Northeast based Saskatchewan facility was named the interim president this week. Verklan said she’s looking forward to the new venture.

“I am excited to continue my work with the dedicated, professional staff that work directly with the students providing a wide spectrum of programming and the strong administrative team that support them. The work of the college impacts the lives of many students and I am glad to be a part of that,” she told northeastNOW.

Verklan is replacing Weegar, who resigned in February to take a similar role at a college in Ontario after over four years at the Nipawin campus. Verklan said she learned several attributes from him during their time as colleagues.

“I enjoyed working with Tom (Dr. Weegar) and appreciated the experience and knowledge he brought from colleges outside of Saskatchewan to Cumberland. He demonstrated how to work well with partners and he also made me think outside the box and develop as a leader,” she said.

The board of directors met this week to discuss the long-term plans for the presidency role. Verklan said she will work closely with the executive in day to day operations as well as the search for a new president.

Weegar’s last day is March 29.
