RCMP trying to get to bottom of mystery roll-over

Nov 8, 2017 | 10:42 AM

RCMP in Melfort are still trying to piece together the circumstances surrounding the mysterious truck roll-over near Gronlid.

Shortly after 2 a.m. Sunday morning, Melfort Fire and Rescue were dispatched to the scene on Highway 6 north. But when they arrived no one was in the vehicle or nearby the badly damaged truck.

“Members have identified the driver,” Cpl Kyle Wyonzek told northeastNOW. “We’re currently working with them to see exactly what happened.”

He said it was too early to say if the vehicle had been stolen or there may have been impaired driving involved.

“Investigators are still speaking with witnesses, registered owners and drivers,” he said.

Wyonek couldn’t speculate on the cause because all parties had not been spoke to. Despite the ugly looking scene captured in a picture from emergency crews, it seems the occupants of the vehicle – whoever they were – were not seriously injured.

“First indications are it doesn’t appear that anyone was badly hurt,” Wyonek said.

The half ton truck was found on its roof on a frozen slough.

Firefighters used air bags and the jaws of life to lift the vehicle to confirm no one was underneath the vehicle.
