Feb 17, 2018 | 7:32 AM

The Nipawin Hawks jumped out to a 4-0 lead Friday against Humboldt before eventually holding on for a 4-3 win.

The victory extends the Hawks’ point streak to 30 games.

Jordan Simoneau scored twice for Nipawin, which sits first place overall in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League standings with 82 points, four up on the Battlefords North Stars. Simoneau said the dressing room is a lot of fun during the streak.

“It’s great in the room right now, continuing the streak is really nice,” he said.

Jake Tremblay scored his 11th goal for the Hawks and Brett Harasymuk added his 15th goal. Simoneau has nine on the year. The 19-year-old said chipping in with offence feels fantastic.

“It feels really good, being in and out of the line-up and not getting as much ice time as some guys it’s nice to pounce on my opportunities,” Simoneau said.

Tremblay had three points and Harasmyuk added an assist. Josh McDougall had two assists.

Declan Hobbs made 34 saves in the win. Parker Tobin allowed four Nipawin goals on 32 shots.

Humboldt got goals from Jaxon Joseph, Bryce Fiske, and Conner Lukan.

In Melfort, the Mustangs picked up a dramatic 3-2 win over the Flin Flon Bombers.

Colin Schmidt scored his 22nd goal of the season with just 0.6 seconds left in regulation securing two points for Melfort.

Jake Misskey opened the scoring with his third of the season for the Mustangs while Kalem Zary provided his ninth goal. Defenseman Tyler Hiedt made his season debut collecting an assist.

Hunter Arps stopped 25 of 27 shots for the win in goal. Brenden Newton gave up three goals on 37 Melfort scoring chances.

The Mustangs sit nine points back of the Hawks for first place in their division. The teams will face-off Saturday in Nipawin at 7:30 pm.
