Carrot River arena home to new zamboni
A new zamboni is the latest addition to the Carrot River Arena.
The brand new piece of equipment was delivered on Tuesday and the Carrot River and District Recreation Coordinator, Miranda Blaber, said they are excited to have the machine on site.
The project to get a new zamboni had been underway for quite some time.
“As with all equipment even with good maintenance , your maintenance cost outweighs your expenses of buying a new one,” Blaber said. “So five years ago it was finally put in place to be a solid plan so that’s about how long it took to make happen.”
Town council and RM of Moose Range council committed to sharing the cost of the project and Richardson Pioneer Foundation made a $25,000 donation to make the purchase a reality.
In total, the zamboni costed just over $110,000.
“We have a good facility , the bones are good, let’s work with what we have and so the decision was made to move forward and we have been steadily plugging forward,” Blaber said.
A number of upgrades have been made to the arena over the past few years including new lighting, lobby renovations and new dressing rooms.
“We really appreciate the support from our councils from our taxpayers, community and businesses,” she said.
The arena in Carrot River is home to the Outback Thunder Prairie Junior hockey team and also host bantam, peewee, midget, and novice hockey games throughout the season.
