Fire department’s 68th annual wing ding set for Saturday
The largest fundraiser for the year for the Melfort Fire Department takes place this Saturday.
The wing ding event is filled with bingo games with prizes of turkeys, hams, chocolates, and oranges at the Kerry Vickar Centre.
Firefighter Graham Calow said the event brings in money for maintenance and equipment.
“We’re trying to buy a new set of jaws and they’re getting quite expensive and so we are continuing that campaign of trying to purchase a new set of jaws for auto extrication,” Calow said.
The wing ding is a family event that continues to be a hit in the region.
“We set up as many tables and chairs as they can put in the Kerry Vickar Centre and we max those out, we are often scrambling to find more tables and chairs as people come in,” Calow said. “At any given time we will have around 200 or 300 people at a time playing bingo.
Doors open at 1 p.m. with games beginning at 1:30 p.m. and running into the evening. A concession will also be available.
“We’ve got a gate crasher special, the first five games are always free so if you’re there right when we start, you get five free games,” he said.
