Council in Nipawin approves purchase of new oven for Evergreen Centre

Changes will be coming to the Evergreen Centre restaurant in Nipawin.

Council voted to spend around $7,100 for a natural gas oven for the Evergreen Centre restaurant space currently being leased to “The Spot”.

The rationale being the current oven is in constant need of repairs and the town staff need to contact companies outside of Nipawin to repair it.

Mayor Rennie Harper said at last night’s council meeting the oven will be town property, as the Spot only rents the space at Evergreen.

The Town of Nipawin is also looking at quotes for electrical repairs in the restaurant’s kitchen.

Meanwhile, council has assigned its representatives for deputy mayor and other civic appointments.

Councillor Joyce Watts will serve 2019 as the deputy mayor, meaning she will serve as acting mayor if Rennie Harper is absent.

The Town of Nipawin won’t have any representatives for the Twin Lakes Board of Revision and Development Appeals Board, or alternate for the Nipawin Habitat for Humanity Committee in the near future.

Mayor Rennie Harper said council is leaving the spaces intentionally vacant, so the winner of the by-election to replace former councillor Ismael Aliguyon can represent the town.

Harper also said the town is still in discussions to potentially re-join the Nipawin and District Chamber of Commerce.
