Prospective council candidates can learn more at information session

Feb 8, 2019 | 11:54 AM

Interested candidates for the vacant councillors seat in Nipawin have a chance to learn more about what the position entails.

A prospective candidate information session will happen Wednesday, Feb. 13 at 7 p.m. at the Evergreen Centre.

Returning officer Barry Elliott told northeastNOW they held similar sessions during the last civic election, and the two previous byelections.

“We’ve tried to provide a bit of information to prospective candidates just so that they have a sense before they submit their nomination paper and make final decisions,” Elliott said. “Just to help them understand what some of the elements are of the role, time commitments, and scope of the role.”

Elliott said the session is also an opportunity for prospective candidates to ask him questions about the position.

If anyone is interested in the information session but cannot attend, Elliott said he can provide them with a copy of the presentation.

The byelection is to fill Coun. Ismael Aliguyon’s seat. He resigned in October.

Nominations for the position are open until Feb. 27.
