City of Melfort mulling change to angled parking by high school
The city of Melfort is looking at the possibility of instituting angled parking at the high school.
Director of Works and Utilities Kalyna Cipywnyk told northeastNOW that administration is recommending a trial of the parking layout at Melfort and Unit Comprehensive Collegiate (MUCC).
“A preliminary study/analysis was completed on the parking capacity in the area that shows angled parking would increase the number of parking stalls available on this street,” Cipywnyk said. “Council had passed a resolution earlier this year directing administration to review the feasibility of angled parking along Assiniboia Street near MUCC and report on findings, impacts, estimated costs, and recommendations.”
A preliminary study completed by Melfort’s engineering consulting company, Catterall & Wright Consulting Engineers, recommended changing parking on Assiniboia St. The west side of the street would continue to have parallel parking, while the east side would change to angled parking spots.
