Smoke-filled home

Melfort home evacuated after furnace malfunction

Feb 14, 2019 | 10:27 AM

It was an early morning for Melfort Fire and Rescue crews.

Members responded to a call of a possible structure fire in the 800 block of Columbia Dr. just before 5 a.m.

Crews determined a furnace motor drive malfunction resulted in smoke in the home.

Smoke alarms alerted people in the home and they safely evacuated before firefighters ventilated the home. There were no injuries or damage to the home.

On its Facebook page, members of the fire department urge locals to ensure smoke and carbon monoxide alarms are working.
