Mustangs set for first meeting of the season against Terriers

Nov 7, 2026 | 6:43 PM

For the final time of the 2026/27 SJHL regular season, the Melfort Mustangs will have their first meeting of the season against a specific opponent.

Tonight, they welcome the Yorkton Terriers to town for the two clubs’ lone contest of the week.

Both teams have yet to suit up this month, as Melfort hasn’t played since last Wednesday, in a 4-0 shutout victory over the Battlefords North Stars, while Yorkton fell 5-3 this past Saturday in Estevan.

“We just keep the foot on the pedal; we were playing great before our break, so there’s no reason to slow down at all. Just keep going and play the way we’ve been playing,” explained Mustangs defenceman Darren Hunt.

“We just want to go into every game like we’re playing the best team in the league, so if we do that, we’re always gonna play great. Doesn’t matter who we’re playing; we’re just gonna try and bring our best every night.”

So far on the season, the Terriers are 7-6-1 on the year, which has them in eighth place in the SJHL standings.

The Stangs, meanwhile, have fallen a couple of spots in the standings, simply for the fact that they’ve been idle for 10 days. They do, however, have a great record of 10-4-1, with points in four straight games.

The first of four meetings of the season will begin with a 7:30 p.m. puck drop Saturday night from the Northern Lights Palace, with the pregame show beginning at 7:10 p.m. on 105CJVR and CJVR.com.
