Goudy officially acclaimed as Sask. Party candidate for Melfort

Goudy won the byelection in March 2018 and has been in office ever since.

Goudy said he was pleased the MLA nomination process is behind him.

“The campaign will be fun, but I think it’s the day to day that’s the exciting part of this job,” he said.

Goudy ran unopposed for this nomination, and he said it does show a bit of confidence from the constituents.

“That’s very humbling and that sure feels nice to know that you have the support of your constituency, absolutely,” he said. “I can’t say enough how much I appreciate the fact that I have the support of them when I’m down in Regina. You don’t want to stand up and say ‘This is what I think.’ You want to represent the people, and this is just a vote of confidence, and so it’s very humbling, and a real privilege.”

Before getting into politics in Melfort, Goudy was active in the Melfort community, and he said one reason he is a good candidate, is that he loves to serve his home community.

“You need to be the kind of person that actually cares about others, and puts the needs of others before yourself, and listens,” Goudy said. “There’s a lot of great people in our constituency that could fill this role very well. But if I would say one strength that I would have, is that I love people, I am concerned for them and their lives, and I want to serve them.”

A few concerns brought up at Goudy’s nomination meeting included China’s refusal to buy canola, the lack of the CT scanner at the Melfort Hospital and several infrastructure concerns.

The provincial election will take place October 2020.
