Nipawin Chase the Ace’s finale features a $15,000 jackpot

Three years of fundraising and drawing cards will come to an end.

Nipawin’s Chase the Ace will draw the ace of spades on Thursday, April 25 with no exceptions, as the committee’s lottery license will expire.

The current jackpot is over $15,000 and is expected to grow by the time the first card is drawn, although the most important number is the amount of money raised toward the Nipawin Pool Building Renovation Project.

Lawrence Rospad, a committee member of the project, told northeastNOW the ace of spades being hidden throughout the year has resulted in a grand finale.

“We’re expecting a big crowd on our final day,” Rospad said. “Crowds have been growing, and it’s just been a great fundraiser and project for the Nipawin area for the past three years.”

Rospad said the committee formed three years ago because they saw a need to renovate Nipawin’s pool building and make it more handicap and wheelchair accessible. The desire to renovate the pool building coincides with the Town of Nipawin upgrading the pool itself.

After three years of fundraising, the committee raised over $360,000 toward the Nipawin pool building renovations and are around $40,000 of its goal.

Rospad hopes they reach their goal and the pool building renovations will be complete when the pool opens in late May, but said the past three years have been a great experience.

“This is just a fantastic end to a great project and fundraiser,” he said. “We’ve [raised] well over $300,000 for a very big project, and certainly the support of the community has been fantastic which has led to that.”

The final night of Nipawin’s Chase the Ace will take place at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 120. Ticket sales will start from 5 to 6:45 p.m.

Rospad said the committee expects a large crowd and encourages people to bring lawn chairs as they expect to fit people outside.
