Severe weather presentation

Environment Canada meteorologist coming to Melfort to discuss severe weather

May 3, 2019 | 2:09 PM

Recognizing severe weather will be the focus of a presentation in Melfort.

The City of Melfort, the Melfort Fire Department, and Environment Canada are bringing the unique opportunity to the community to learn how certain weather might impact them and how to respond to it.

Fire Chief Jason Everitt said severe weather has safety impacts for everyone.

“Just understanding and being able to pick up the queues of what’s happening and looking at development around and being able to determine if it’s something to worry about or not,” Everitt said. “This seminar really gives a lot of those answers.”

Meteorologist Terri Lang will cover topics such as tornadoes, thunderstorms as well winter storm activity.

Attendees will also leave with the knowledge behind the difference in a weather warning or a weather watch in weather systems.

The entire community is encouraged to come take in the information that could very well effect at any time.

“Whether it’s school children, whether it’s adults, or senior citizens, it’s open for everybody,” Everitt said.

The seminar would be open to school groups that may be covering weather in their studies as well.

The event takes place on May 23 at the Kerry Vickar Centre in the CJVR Performing Arts Theatre.
