La Loche man charged with killing man intervening in fight

La Loche RCMP have one man in custody as they investigate a homicide after a man attempted to intervene in a fight.

On May 25, officers responded to an outdoor assault near a recreation area in the Northern Village.

Witnesses told officers they saw two adults fighting each other and when a man tried to intervene in the fight, he was assaulted and injured.

The injured man was taken to La Loche Hospital. Dawson Herman, 19, from La Loche was declared deceased shortly after arriving at the hospital and an autopsy was ordered.

Jones Herman, 22, was arrested after midnight on May 26 and charged with second-degree murder. He appeared in court this morning.

The investigation into Dawson’s death remains ongoing.
