Melfort residents taking pies in the face for fundraiser

Whether they’re going to eat it, or wear it, Melfort residents will get a face full of pie to raise funds for one of their own.

The Bargain Shop in Melfort will hold a Pie in the Face Auction fundraiser where bidders bid for a pie along with their component and the winner either gets to take the baked treat home to eat, or literally shove it in the other person’s face if they consent.

All funds raised during the auction will go to Brian Syniuk, a Melfort man who has recently been diagnosed with cancer and is staying in Saskatoon for chemotherapy.

Crystal Munroe, store manager of the Bargain Shop in Melfort, told northeastNOW she and the store owners just wanted to help a fellow member of the community.

“It’s the mission of the Bargain Shop and Red Apple Stores to be part of your community,” Munroe said. “I know who they are and know them as people. I saw that they started a GoFundMe page, so I just picked them as people to help.”

Munroe hopes to see a strong turnout to raise funds for Syniuk and the auction can grow as a signature fundraiser for the Bargain Shop in Melfort.

The auction will begin at the Bargain Shop on Friday, June 14 at 4 p.m., with pies donated by Gaylene Nicklefork.
