Show and shine to take over Main Street in Melfort on Friday

Jun 13, 2019 | 3:16 PM

Main Street in Melfort will be filled with not only show vehicles but food booths, and other special attractions on Friday afternoon for the 30th annual Show and Shine.

The event that grows each year will see vehicles begin to roll in at 3 p.m.

Melfort Business Revitalization Corporation member Tara Muntain said despite the rain and thunderstorms that are currently in the forecast, the event will go as planned unless otherwise announced.

“At about 1 o’clock, we’ll be making the call,” Muntain said. “If it’s thundershowering it’s not going to happen. If there is going to be a few sprinkles in the sky and the clouds are going to go to the North like they always do, then it’s a go.”

Entries for the Show and Shine are being taken on Burrows Avenue E.

Spectators are welcome throughout the afternoon with the largest crowd expected between the hours of 3 and 6 p.m.

The Northern Lights Gallery will host a kids art show throughout the day. A climbing wall, face painting, glitter tattoos, vendor tables, and a food court will all be set up at Memorial Gardens.

Meldoy Motors has its human truck pull back this year on Crawford Avenue W. beside the Melfort Mustangs beer gardens at Memorial Gardens.

Back alleys will be open for traffic as the streets will be closed along Main Street from Saskatchewan Avenue to Stovel Avenue. The exception being the closure of the alley between the Northern Lights Palace and Memorial Garden.

All of the street closures will begin between 1 and 2 p.m.

The Show and Shine event continues to be a community effort and new this year is the back to the 50s sock hop cabaret that will cap off the day at the Melfort Curling Rink.

The cabaret event is a fundraiser for the Melfort Historic Post Office building revitalization.
