Provincial Communities in Bloom judges begin tour of Nipawin

Aug 7, 2019 | 4:26 PM

For the first time in nearly 15 years, Saskatchewan Communities in Bloom (CiB) judges have returned to the Town of Nipawin.

Brenda Winny from Rosetown and Bonny Lundberg from Saskatoon began their tour of Nipawin at the town’s square on First Ave. E.

While the two have been CiB judges for approximately 22 years, their stop in 2019 marks their first visit to Nipawin in many years, as they said Northern Greens Resort was still brand new during their stay.

“I suspect we’ll be just as impressed,” Winny told northeastNOW. “From what we can see off the bat: the beautiful boulevards, the green spaces, urban forestry, a lot has been updated since.”

Nipawin is participating in the under 5,000 category as part of the 2019 Saskatchewan Provincial Communities in Bloom competition, under the Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association (SPRA) umbrella.

CiB judges grade communities up to 1,000 points based on categories such as environmental action, floral displays, heritage conservation, landscape, urban forestry, and tidiness. Nipawin previously received the highest grade of five blooms in 2003 before the last time it participated in 2005.

Winny and Lundberg will conclude their tour on Thursday, Aug. 8, before the SPRA reveals the results later in 2019.
