The Melfort Mustangs have made a trade to add to their forward group as the regular season nears.

The Mustangs added Ryley Lanthier from the Langley Rivermen of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL), in exchange for a Player Development Fee (PDF).

Lanthier played 47 games for the Rivermen last season, tallying three goals and eight assists for 11 points. He was held pointless in three playoff games as well. Prior to his time with the Rivermen, Lanthier spent parts of three seasons with the Ridge Meadow Flames of the Pacific Junior Hockey League, a Junior B league in B.C. In 74 games with the Flames, Lanthier scored 24 goals and added 30 assists for 54 points. He added 17 points in 23 playoff games as well. He was named the league’s most improved player in the 2017/2018 season.

““Ryley is a big 6-2 forward who will add size to our forward group. He’s a tough player to play against and will help our skill up front,” Mustang Head Coach and GM Trevor Blevins said. “We look forward to bringing Ryley to Melfort, and getting him into his first SJHL game.”

The Mustangs continue their pre-season schedule against the Humboldt Broncos on Friday, Sept. 6 in Humboldt. That will be followed by a rematch in Melfort the very next night to close out their pre-season schedule.

The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League regular season begins on Sept. 13 with a full slate of games including the Mustangs visiting their rival Nipawin Hawks.
