RCMP golf tournament raises $3,000 for Hudson Bay KidSport

The Hudson Bay/Porcupine Plain RCMP’s annual golf tournament has been going on for 26 years with the intention to raise funds that stay in the community.

This year, Hudson Bay KidSport was the recipient of a $3,000 donation raised during the Aug. 28 golf tournament at Hudson Bay Golf Club.

“They were quite grateful,” Const. Derrek Watt said. “We were approached by KidSport this year. They were able to support around 50 kids last year, so we’re seeing more of a need for that. And what a better organization to partner with than something like KidSport that keeps our youth engaged.”

Watt said the $3,000 donation should cover around half the funds Hudson Bay KidSport puts forth toward youth who need financial assistance to play recreational sports.

The 72-person, Texas Scramble golf tournament is the Hudson Bay/Porcupine Plain RCMP’s main annual fundraiser but Watt said the detachment is brainstorming some ideas for the near future.

A portion of funds raised from the golf tournament also goes toward a scholarship for a Hudson Bay Community School graduate.
