Oct 13, 2019 | 2:00 PM

Three crew members were transported to Melfort Hospital with minor injuries following a train collision.

The collision happened early in the afternoon on Saturday, Oct. 12 where a single engine collided with another engine that was part of a longer train. The three injured crew members were part of the train that was struck, the members on the single engine did not sustain any injuries.

No dangerous goods were being transported by either train and no engines or cars were derailed.

Emergency services in Melfort and St. Brieux attended the scene along with CN Police.

Jason Everitt, Melfort’s Fire Chief, told northeastNOW that train collisions are very rare in his experience.

“Typically, any incident involving a train is a single train unit with potential derailment,” Everitt said. “[Train] controls are such that these incidents are rare and happen very infrequently.”

CN Police will take lead of the investigation to determine how the collision transpired.
