Nipawin’s Kyle Froehlich selected as Baseball player of the year

Baseball Saskatchewan has named Nipawin’s Kyle Froehlich as the 2019 baseball Player Of The Year.

The 17 year-old began playing ball when he was very young and has never looked back.

“My dad and my brother and I would play catch in the backyard and then we got a bat and then it just progressed from there,” Froehlich said.

He added it was around his second year of bantam ball, when it clicked that this might be something he could excel at.

Froehlich began playing with the AAA Muenster ball team when he was in his midget year.

“That was really nice because it was that next level of ball, the guys were committed there,” Froehlich said.

Muenster coach Chad Hoffman as well as his son Logan, are credited by Froehlich for his success so far.

“Learning stuff from Logan and Chad with pitching mechanics has been great for improving my pitching and it’s just been awesome,” Froehlich said.

The pitcher and short stop said having his name on this award is special.

“I won the minor baseball Player of The Year award and seeing the guy that year win the senior award, I was like, that’s an award I want to win,” Froehlich said. “It’s pretty cool to reach that goal and have that achievement.”

Froehlich is taking his grade 12 classes in Saskatoon where he lives with some family members and also trains for baseball. He is aiming to get into a junior college program in the United States.

With his new achievement, he had some advice for anyone who may have any sort of goal in mind.

“Just know why you are doing it because you are going to run into obstacles and things that knock you down and tough moments,” Froehlich said. “If you know why you are doing something then that really helps you push through and keep going.”
