Part of Main Street in Melfort to be closed to traffic

A heads-up for motorists in Melfort.

The 800 block of Main Street will be closed to traffic starting Tuesday, as city crews install a water service connection.

Director of Development, Planning and Community Relations Brent Lutz told northeastNOW the excavation is unrelated to previous water main work done on the block.

The new service connection is being installed for a development in one of the vacant lots between Dress Well with Gisele and the Melfort Dental Group.

“We’re happy to be able to get in there with the weather still reasonable pleasant for this time of year and put that service in there so construction can proceed,” Lutz said.

That block should remain closed for Tuesday and Wednesday.

“We’re installing a fairly decent size water line there, so it could take as much as a couple of days, but once the work is completed there, the street will be open to regular traffic,” Lutz said.

Motorists driving in the area are being asked to watch for detour signs and slow down.

The businesses on that block have been notified and temporary water service is arranged.

Lutz said the area will be filled in and levelled off after the work is done, and patching will be done in the new year.
