The Kinistino School Family Dance Fundraiser on the weekend was a big hit.

The event held at the sport complex gym helped raise money for the Kinistino School playground, after safety concerns were raised about the main structure.

“We had a great turnout, lots of members of the community came out, we had the band That Guy and it was just crazy good, they were amazing,” teacher Sheldon Larson said. “[The band] donated also donated all their time towards the fundraiser.”

Larson said the dance was also a success financially, as they were able to raise $4,263.55.

He thanked the school community council for providing the midnight lunch, the Kinsmen for working the event, the rink for donating the space, and the silent auction donors, as that helped bring in over $2,000.

Another fundraiser is in the works, as they look to raise about $100,000 for the entire playground project. They are currently about a quarter of the way there.

“My industrial arts class is currently building an ice shack. It’s going to be fully insulated and come with a flat screen TV,” Larson said.

They are currently raffling off tickets that are available through the school, at all Kinistino co-ops, and Co-operators in Melfort. The draw date is Feb. 1.
