Final chance to have your say on proposed Pineland Co-op amalgamation

“We have a delegate structure at Pineland [Co-op], so we rely heavily on input from the members,” said Doerksen. “It’s a lot of responsibility for the delegate body to make a big decision like this, we really want to have the members involved in [the decision].”

Pineland held five information sessions before Christmas, and Doerksen said things went fairly well. He said a lot of members wanted more information, some were in favour of amalgamation, and a few were against the merger.

Pineland and Lake Country have been working together for about three years with a management agreement. Doerksen said the management team of the two co-ops have worked well together, and the agreement worked out even better than anticipated.

Doerksen said in December that there would be several benefits to amalgamating Pineland and Lake Country, with members able to collect more equity with their purchases, and the Co-ops to be able to save on purchases and share equipment and inventory.

A decision will be made sometime after the final members’ meeting, but Doerksen said there is no scheduled time for the delegate vote.
