Hospital gets donation to help kids

The Victoria Hospital Foundation received a unique kind of donation Monday morning.

Mann Northway GMC donated two toy battery powered vehicles to the hospital. The dealership’s general manager Mark Ripley he hopes the gift will make it easier for children going through a tough time.

“They [can] drive those down to surgery instead of actually being wheeled down and you know they have a little bit of fun, put a smile on their face,” he said.

Ripley said he originally got the idea to donate toy vehicles after hearing about a dealership in the United States making a similar donation.

He said he is happy with how the contribution was received. He said he and others made the decision to support the hospital because of how important it is to the community.

Ripley said they are looking forward to doing more with the hospital in the future.

Sherry Buckler, CEO of the Victoria Hospital Foundation, said she and others appreciate the contribution.

“It’s kind of giving an opportunity for the kids to take their minds off of their worries,” she said.

Buckler said while much of the foundation’s focus is on trying to acquire medical equipment for the hospital, items like the toy electric vehicles are important as well.

“This is just as important as a piece of medical equipment in our opinion,” she said.
