Humboldt BBBS Bowl for Kids Sake taking place next week

Jan 29, 2020 | 12:00 PM

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Humboldt (BBBS) is ready to hit the lanes again this year.

The annual Bowl for Kids Sake fundraiser is being held Feb. 3 through 9 at Kemway Lanes in Humboldt.

“We are celebrating our 40th year, we are very excited to say that we’ve held this event for 40 years,” Development Co-ordinator for BBBS Humboldt Jodie Hergott said.

Bowl for Kids Sake is the largest fundraiser of the year for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Humboldt.

“We ask people of the community to collect pledges and come on out and bowl a few games, all in the name of a good cause,” Hergott said.

Each Bowl for Kids Sake event has a specific theme, and this year’s is ‘Sports-a-palooza’.

“Anything sports – wear your jersey, come dressed as your favourite sports player, maybe you want to try [to] squeeze into that old uniform from your high school days, it’s all good,” Hergott said. “Even watermelon helmets are welcome.”

The goal for this year is to raise $20,000. Along with the pledges, there are raffle items and a silent auction table.

All money raised goes toward BBBS programming, which Hergott said gives them the ability to keep making matches, and getting mentors to children in the area who dearly need them.

Hergott said there is currently a waitlist of 21 kids looking for mentors, and anyone interested in becoming a mentor or looking for information can contact the office.
