Lanigan raised doctor to speak in Humboldt about Doctors Without Borders

Feb 5, 2020 | 5:00 PM

People in Humboldt are going to get the chance to learn a bit more about Doctors Without Borders and hear some stories from a local doctor.

On Thursday, Feb. 13, Dr. Deirdre Nunan of Lanigan will be at the Westminster United Church in Humboldt to talk about Doctors Without Borders, as well as her experiences over the past two years working in places such as Syria, Haiti, Burundi, and Gaza.

Co-Host Renee MacKenzie said after hearing Nunan had spoken in Lanigan a while ago, they thought bringing her to Humboldt would be a good idea.

“It’s going to be a great opportunity to have her here to share her stories,” MacKenzie told northeastNOW. “And to explain the purpose of Doctors Without Borders.”

Those in attendance will have the opportunity to donate to the organization, and MacKenzie said any help can make a difference.

“It doesn’t matter where you’re from or what you do, you can always make a difference in the world,” she said. “And it can be in a small portion of the world, or a bigger portion of the world. Whatever you can do makes a difference.”

The event begins at 7 p.m. and will feature a 45 minute presentation, followed by a question and answer. The event will then end with some coffee and cookies and a chance to speak to Dr. Nunan.
