Liquor now allowed at Historic Post Office for non-city sponsored events

The door is open for the possibility of some new events at the Historic Post Office in Melfort.

Prior to the Regular Council Meeting on Monday, Feb. 10, only city-sponsored events would be allowed to have liquor at the post office. But on Monday, council voted to amend the booking policy for the venue.

“The original intent was to allow liquor in there, for private events that are not city-sponsored,” Mayor Rick Lang said.

Those running the private function will still need the proper permits from SLGA, as well as insurance.

The amendment was brought to council at its previous meeting, but it was tabled. That was to allow for consultation with local groups, such as those who manage the legion.

“There [were] no issues, surprisingly enough,” Lang told northeastNOW. “We thought there might be, and that’s why we tabled it, because we thought there might be some issues but there [were] no issues.”

Lang added everything else with the booking policy remains the same.
