School bus in Highway 3 crash but no injuries

Feb 26, 2020 | 5:15 PM

Traffic on Highway 3 near Birch Hills was being rerouted late Wednesday afternoon after a two-vehicle collision involving a school bus and truck.

According to a media release from RCMP, just before 4 p.m. the bus and a half-ton truck collided near Birch Hills.

No one was injured in the collision and EMS attended the incident as a precaution.

Police said motorists were slowed to 60 km/h.

Speaking to paNOW on Thursday, Saskatchewan Rivers Public School Division director of education Robert Bratvold explained what he had learned.

“My understanding is the bus was turning off of Highway 3 and the truck following the bus failed to stop in time and collided with the rear of the bus. There were five students on board along with the driver and there were no significant injuries,” he said.

He added it was normal protocol for the school division to check in with families and follow up to make sure things were alright and the bus driver did her normal route this morning with a spare bus.

RCMP Staff Sgt Brian Kelly said an investigation was underway to assess a potential charge and alcohol was not a factor. The driver of the truck was also not injured.
