GO OUT AND PLAY

Melfort offering numerous activities as part of Saskatchewan in motion challenge

Mar 4, 2020 | 2:02 PM

The 2020 Go Out and Play Challenge continues this week around the province with numerous activities available in Melfort.

Residents are encouraged to get out and get active and log minutes online with Saskatchewan In Motion.

Recreation Programmer Shannon Marshall said the week got underway with a fun day at Memorial Gardens.

“I would say 65 to 70 people came out so that was really great to see,” Marshall said.

This is the fourth year the city is competing in the go out and play challenge allowing more and more activities to be added with each year.

A Pound rock-out workout class Tuesday night at the Kerry Vickar Centre (KVC) was a huge success as well. Initially, there was just one class time scheduled but when it filled up, a second class was added.

“It’s something that we might be looking at bringing to the community on a full-time basis, we wanted to get some engagement and feedback,” Marshall said. “If this class is something that people would like full-time it is definitely something that we can explore.”

The Melfort Youth Evolution is sponsoring a beach party at the Northern Lights Palace Pool that will run Wednesday, March 4 from 7-9 p.m. and is free for everyone. The beach party will include music, games, and beach specials at the concession.

The Melfort and Unit Comprehensive Collegiate (MUCC) gym will also have badminton this evening. Noon hour basketball all week and then pickleball on Thursday nights at the KVC gym.

Melfort has logged over 7,358 active minutes so far in the challenge. The community with most minutes logged will be eligible for $10,000 for a community project.

Each member of the community can log up to 90 minutes of physical activity each day.

During the challenge, the annual pool pass sale is on until March 10th.

“Get up, get out and get active,” she said.
