Volunteering Opportunities in the Prince Albert Area

The Volunteer Services Department is in need of caring, compassionate and committed volunteers to fill the following service positions:

Friendly Visiting – Surgical & Medical Floors – Victoria Hospital

Duties include visiting from room to room on a one-to-one basis, chatting, listening, playing cards, board games, reading, writing letters, taking patients to hospital functions, making tea/coffee for individual patients, and feeding patients (when needed).

Shifts: 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. or 1:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. daily

Monday – Sunday: Flexible: Once or twice per week.

Patient Navigators – Day Surgery – Victoria Hospital

Patient Navigators improve the experience for surgical patients by ensuring they are in the right place at the right time.

Shifts: 6:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.; 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Monday – Friday

Meals on Wheels – Home Care Prince Albert, Birch Hills, Kinistino

Adult volunteers are needed to assist with delivering meals to Home Care clients.

Shifts: 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Peer Navigator – Victoria Hospital

Volunteers are needed to assist and support newly-diagnosed cancer patients through the network of health and support systems in place. Excellent interpersonal skills and a caring heart are necessary for this position.

Shifts: Flexible, as needed and agreed upon with the patient.

Palliative Care– Parkland Integrated Health Centre, Shellbrook

Volunteers sit with residents to provide relief and support for families.

Shifts: Flexible

Recreation Opportunities–Whispering Pine Place, Canwood

Responsibilities include assisting with crafts, shopping trips, special functions, exercise programs, bowling groups, horticulture, painting, baking, etc. Volunteers assist staff with set up and take down of program.

Shifts: Flexible

Activity Program – Big River

Responsibilities include assisting with crafts, shopping trips, special functions, exercise programs, bowling groups, horticulture, painting, baking, etc. Volunteers assist staff with set up and take down of program.

Shifts: Flexible

Meals on Wheels – Birch Hills, Kinistino

Adult volunteers are needed to assist with delivering meals to Home Care clients.

Shifts: 11:15 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

“Loving Spoonfuls” – Birchview Home, Birch Hills (306) 749-3488

Duties include escorting residents to and from dining rooms, assisting residents with meals when necessary, sitting with residents, and helping to make mealtime a pleasant time.

Shifts: Breakfast, Lunch and/or Dinner meals.

Monday – Sunday, once or twice per week.

Youth Volunteer Program – Jubilee Lodge, Kinistino (306) 864-2851

“On Call” Volunteers – Jubilee Lodge, Kinistino (306) 864-2851

Extra volunteers are often needed for the long term care residents on an “on-call” basis, to assist with outings, parties, social gatherings, shopping trips, taking residents to appointments, etc.

Shifts: As needed
