Prairie North Co-op Food Stores limiting purchase of high-demand items

Some limits are coming into place for shoppers at Prairie North Co-op Food Stores in the northeast.

On Monday, March 16, Prairie North Co-op announced shoppers would only be allowed to take home two packages of toilet paper, one hand sanitizer, and one package of disinfecting wipes.

Whitney Rogers is the Food Store Manager of the Melfort location and said the warehouse has already started to pro-rate their shipments. She said the limits are to try and keep up with the demand so that everyone can get what they need.

“At this moment, we are trying to just kind of make sure that there’s enough to go around to everybody that is going to need it,” she said.

Rogers said they did get a shipment of toilet paper on Monday, but it has been moving quite fast. Hand sanitizer, and disinfecting wipes on the other hand are out at the time of publishing. She said while those items are rolling out fast, everything else is selling at a higher than normal pace.

“As for everything else,” Rogers said. “Their sales have increased quite a bit over the last few days. So we’re trying to keep up with just keeping all our shelves full, not just those items that we’ve put a limit on.”

She added while limits are in place, that shouldn’t stop people from coming in to get what they need.

“Probably what’s going to be easiest is if people come in and just kind of get their regular shop done,” she said. “That way it allows our staff to also keep up with keeping our shelves full.”

Rogers also encouraged those who may be sick, or are in quarantine to stay home and use Prairie North’s delivery system. Fees for that service are going to be waived as of Tuesday, March 17.
