COVID-19 cases rise; P.A. doctors infected at event
As of Saturday, Saskatchewan has 17 new positive cases and one presumptive positive case of COVID-19. The province now has 44 cases in total: 25 cases are confirmed and 19 cases are presumptive.
All of the cases (confirmed and presumptive) were 20 years of age and older with the exception of one case, which is still under investigation. The largest percentage of these cases are male at 65 per cent while females make up 35 per cent. The province did not specify where the latest cases are located.
Meanwhile, the bonspiel held in Edmonton last week, before the 250 crowd maximum limits were imposed, has thrown up some startling numbers. Eleven of 22 attendees who are physicians and frontline staff from Saskatchewan, tested positive. That includes doctors from Saskatoon, Regina, P.A., and northern areas, according to Chief Medical Health Officer Dr. Saqib Shahab, who gave an update Saturday afternoon. He could not give the specific numbers of doctors impacted in P.A.
Dr. Shahab said cases in the province are either travel or group-related and he called the bonspiel infections ‘sobering’.
