Nipawin Kinsmen offering community support during COVID-19 pandemic

Mar 27, 2020 | 9:51 AM

Similar to all other Kin Clubs, the Nipawin Kinsmen have cancelled all upcoming events due to COVID-19 but they are still offering to help out in the community.

Members are making themselves available to those in isolation who need groceries delivered according to President Jeff Hrynkiw.

“We figured that with people being in self-isolation , delivering groceries would be great way to just help out in our community,” Hrynkiw said.

The idea came from Vice-President Spencer Maxwell who wanted to continue helping out since the Kinsmen goal is always to help the community’s greatest need.

The food deliveries are aimed at the elderly, immune-compromised, or those who may be too anxious to go out in public.

Hrynkiw told northeastNOW they just want to make sure everyone has all of the groceries and supplies they need.

Payment for the groceries is to be done through e-transfer or by calling the grocery store with credit card information.

Along with the drop-offs, Hrynkiw said they may able to help with other tasks as well.

“It is mostly for food delivery but if there were other things that someone wasn’t sure that they could do, just give us a call and I’m sure we would be willing to help out,” Hrynkiw said.

The club hasn’t had many calls or requests so far since the local grocery stores are also offering prompt delivery service for the community.

A few other kin clubs including Estevan, Jansen, and Rose Valley have got on board with the idea and have been quite busy with it.

“We just want to get our names out in the community and still be part of the community as much as we can,” Hrynkiw said.
