SJHL Playoffs on PS4

SJHL taking remainder of Canalta Cup playoffs to Playstation 4

Apr 21, 2020 | 5:10 PM

The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) announced on Tuesday, April 21 that playoffs are coming back in a virtual environment.

The league said teams are currently being created on the EA Sports NHL 2020 video game for Playstation 4 and the rest of the playoffs will then be simulated from there. Live broadcasters will also provide play-by-play.

“The motivation for this venture is to provide SJHL fans, and hockey fans in general, with the ability to watch the game simulations and provide entertainment during these uncertain times,” the release stated. “Given the restrictions of self-isolation, it is hoped that these game simulations will bring people and communities together in a time where the population is feeling disconnected.

The event will begin Thursday, April 23 on the SJHL’s social media channels.

Here’s where things were left off before the COVID-19 pandemic caused things to come to a halt:

(1) Battlefords v. (8) Nipawin – Battlefords leads 3-1

(2) Flin Flon v. (7) Humboldt – Flin Flon wins 4-0

(3) Melfort v. (6) Estevan – Melfort leads 3-1

(4) Yorkton v. (5) La Ronge – Series tied 2-2

The Yorkton and La Ronge series will be the first to resume on Thursday, followed by Nipawin and Battlefords on Friday before Melfort and Estevan resume on Saturday.
