Melfort to operate campground during Phase One of Re-Open Saskatchewan, facilities still closed
As the province prepares for Phase One of Re-Open Saskatchewan beginning May 4, the City of Melfort wants to clear the air on what will be open or not.
On June 1, campgrounds and provincial parks will be operational with precautionary measures. Brent Lutz, Melfort’s director of development planning and community relations, said the city’s intent is to open the campground as normally as possible, but the city will only accept bookings from Saskatchewan residents, screen campers upon arrival, and close common spaces such as bathrooms, showers, and playgrounds.
“Many of our construction programs and projects that go on in our city, municipal or otherwise, rely on our campground as an alternative accommodation,” Lutz said. “There is certainly some information on how we can safely operate under the restrictions in place.”
A concern the city has is residents potentially confusing the province’s message of parks being open on June. Lutz said while provincial parks will operate, outdoor recreation facilities such as playgrounds, ball courts, and the skate park will remain closed like the city’s indoor facilities.
