Tisdale, Nipawin town offices open to the public once again

A couple of local Town Offices have decided to re-open their doors to the public.

As of Thursday, May 21, both the Tisdale and Nipawin Town Offices are open once again, but with numerous restrictions in place to help limit the spread of COVID-19.

Tisdale’s Chief Administrative Officer Brad Hvidston said he and other administrators felt opening after the May Long Weekend was right for them.

“We just felt that we fit in best as phase two,” he said. “With the rest of the retail and everybody else in town.”

Measures that will be in place include the glass, or plastic barriers between staff and the public, and stations with hand sanitizer for when the public enters the building. For Tisdale, they will also limit the number of people in the building at one time.

“The dynamics of coming into our office, it’s tough to not meet each other at the door,” Hvidston told northeastNOW. “So, we’re just asking one person in at a time and that you used the hand sanitizer station when you come in.”

Hvidston said having the town office, among other businesses open helps the community get back to some sort of normalcy. He said there’s still people who like to come in and pay bills, or pay accounts, but bill payments can be made online or through the mail.

Staff have been at the office in Tisdale during the pandemic. Hvidston said they have been able to keep their distance at work.

Meanwhile, the Town of Nipawin installed its protective guards on Wednesday, May 20 and are able to welcome the public again. Staff returned to the office in Nipawin on May 4, but the public has not been allowed to enter the building. The visitor information centre also re-opened.

The City of Melfort has said likely won’t re-open city hall until phase four of the re-open plan.
